August 13, 2008: Funding for Lake Champlain Related Projects Available

 
GRAND ISLE, VT – The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) is pleased to announce its 2008 Local Implementation and Cultural Heritage Grant programs. In 2008, approximately $250,000 will be available through five different grant categories, with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Park Service. This year’s grant programs are as follows:
 
LOCAL IMPLEMENTATION GRANTS

  1. Organizational Support – Up to $2,000 to strengthen the long-term effectiveness of watershed organizations.
  2. Pollution Prevention or Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention – Up to $10,000 to support technical projects which address pollution prevention or invasive species or any of the highest priorities in the management plan, Opportunities for Action.
  3. Education & Outreach – Up to $7,500 for projects that increase student/adult awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment to Lake Champlain issues.

 
CULTURAL HERITAGE GRANTS

  1. Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership Implementation – Up to $10,000 to support recreation and cultural heritage projects that inform and involve the public.
  2. Lake Champlain Quadricentennial Implementation – Up to $5,000 for projects that support the commemoration of Samuel de Champlain’s 1609 arrival to the Lake.

 
Since 1992, the LCBP has awarded more than $3.1 million in local grants to local watershed groups, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, educational groups, and others in the Champlain watershed. Local grants are critical to implementing the Lake Champlain management plan, Opportunities for Action at the grassroots level.
