Vermont’s Queen City of Burlington sets the stage for this story of a remarkable girl who grew up to be First Lady of the nation. Using artifacts and graphics from several public and private collections, this exhibit examines the life of Grace Anna Goodhue in the years before she met an aspiring young politician named Calvin Coolidge. |

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, Agency of Commerce & Community Development, is dedicated to preserving Vermont’s cultural heritage for the purpose of creating greater awareness and understanding of the past. To that end, the Historic Sites Program owns, maintains, develops, and interprets 24 historic properties and related artifacts and archival collections. A National Historic Landmark, the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site is one of ten state-owned historic sites open to the public. The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic SitePlymouth Notch, Vermont Plymouth Notch, birthplace and boyhood home of Calvin Coolidge, is regarded as one of the best-preserved presidential sites in the nation. The small hill town is virtually unchanged since August 3, 1923, when, in the old family homestead, Vice President Coolidge was sworn in as the 30th President of the United States by his father. The homes of Coolidge’s family and neighbors are carefully preserved, as are the village church, general store, cheese factory (still making cheese using the original 1890 recipe), and community dance hall that served as the 1924 Summer White House office. Among the amenities are a modern Visitor Center, two museum stores, two walking trails, an on-site restaurant (serving breakfast & lunch), and a sheltered picnic area. A special part of any visit to “The Notch” is the steep hillside cemetery where Calvin Coolidge rests with seven generations of his family. There are now 12 buildings open to the public at Plymouth. 2009 Season: May 23 - October 18, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM, daily.
